Our History
River’s Edge: A Place for Reflection and Action began in the winter of 2003, with a unanimous vote from the members of the Congregation
of St. Joseph to invest a significant portion of their resources into furthering their mission of unity and reconciliation personally, communally, and
globally. This commitment required us to reevaluate and restructure some of our existing ministries and in doing so, reallocate some of our financial
resources as well. In combining a well established holistic health center with a well run conference center and then adding a third dimension, the establishment
of programs designed to foster personal and social change, the Congregation reached a significant moment in its history.
As a group historically committed to education and justice, we recognize that the issues that confront our church and world today, e.g... global conflicts,
the depletion and abuse of our natural resources, the increasing disparity between the have and the have nots, and the patterns of domination and control
that permeate almost every existing social structure today, would require efforts other than traditional methodologies and solutions to make change possible.
The New Cosmology tells us that the Universe will recreate itself out of chaos, but unless humans become more involved as co-creators in this process,
we face our own extinction and that of generations to come. This calls us to seek out those solutions that our world desperately needs today; social,
scientific, economic, political and inner solutions of the Spirit.
River’s Edge is committed to providing quality programming that will incorporate a wide variety of learning styles, and that will include
a built in process for fostering this personal and societal transformation or change. In doing so, we recognize that we are being called as individuals
and as a Community and in partnership with others, to deepen our relationship with the Creator and be willing to let go of old ways of being and doing,
in order to give birth to a new future.
